Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.

A Chinese American is a person who has American nationality and is full or partial Chinese.

They might be born in China and come to America and change their citizenship. My Mommy did that.

Maybe their parents were born in China and came to the United States. Then they were born here.

Where are they? How Many are There?

Maybe one of their parents was born in China and they came to the United States. Then they were born here. That’s me. My mommy was born in China and I was born in the United States.

Maybe a grandparent or their grandparents were born in China and they were born in the United States and their children were born in the United States.

I think the simple definition is there is Chinese blood in them from somewhere, somehow, but they are American.

Did I forget something?

More than half of all Chinese Americans live in either New York or California. I live in California. But I have been to New York.

But Chinese Americans are not the biggest group of Chinese overseas. There are more Chinese in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Still, more than 1 in 100 people in America have Chinese blood in them.  There are more people in America with Chinese blood in them than there are people in Connecticut or New Hampshire or the Dakotas or Kansas or Utah or New Mexico or Nevada or …  About the same as the population of Los Angeles. More than Houston, Chicago or Philadelphia.

There are a lot ofSilicon Valley where I live. And we are all over the place … and growing.
