Chinese Studying in the United States

There are a lot of Chinese students in the U.S.

I was surprised to learn how many.

I was even more surprised to learn how much they are willing to pay, or I should say, how much their parents are willing to pay for them to be here.

Question: How many Chinese students are there in the international student body in the US?

Answer: 194,000 students in 2012.

More astounding is that this number is up 23% from 2011.

And if the number continued to grow by that percentage each year, the number of students would double every 3 years = 1 million students from China alone by the time I go to college.

Wow! That’s a lot of competition.

Still even more surprising is how much the parents of these kids are willing to pay.

Flights + tuition + living expenses = $60,000 each year!

The parents are willing to pay full tuition, instead of in-state tuition or the school giving a scholarship = free.

Universities can be expected to do their utmost to get as many of these full-paying students to come to their schools as possible. No?

And each of them are likely to be taking a seat in class that might otherwise been available to me.

How much is your mommy and daddy willing to pay for you to go to college?

This daddy sent his little girl to China instead. Look how much he saved!
