Chinese Americans

Chinese mommies and daddies want their children to come to America to go to college.

The mommies and daddies will pay for it, of course, but if they can save money… well who doesn’t want to save money? Then you can buy more iPad mini games. He he he.

But sometimes American mommies and daddies want their children to go to China.

I read this story about a a little girl in New York City who went to China to get an education at an American university that teamed up with a school in Shanghai called East China Normal University. Makes me wonder if there are sometimes abnormal universities.

Her daddy figured that he could save $228,000 if his little girl went to China to go to school.

I don’t know how much that is really. But it’s more than 9 cents. And I don’t think I can fit that much money in my piggy bank.

The little girl wanted to go to NYU. That’s a place where big people go to learn more than their ABCs.

But instead of going to NYU in New York City she was offered a spot to learn in NYU Shanghai .

By going to China her daddy said he could save a lot of money.

And and … his little girl could get more than just an NYU education. She could learn Chinese.

I get to learn Chinese for free. Each night my mommy reads to me in Chinese. And just for fun, sometimes my daddy reads to me in Japanese, too!

I hope my mommy doesn’t send me a bill for $228,000 after I am big.

Do you think it makes sense sometimes for Americans to go to China the way Chinese come to America to learn?

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
