Ultrarunning and Life's Lessons

Ultrarunning and Life’s Lessons

I looked at my daddy’s list of lessons that he says he learned when he was doing ultrarunning and triathlons.

The list is long. This is post is number 5 or 6.

Wow! How cool. Lots of good things to learn I hope.

This one I gotta say made me laugh.

It might be a cant a dictionary (Ed. contradiction). That’s when he says one thing one time and a completely opposite thing another time.

Daddy said earlier, “There is never any reason to give up.”

But this lesson doesn’t agree.

The lesson:

“If you see a shark, pray they aren’t hungry and get out of the water.”

Now that’s funny. Except it wouldn’t be funny if you really did see a shark and the shark really was hungry.

So, maybe you’re not supposed to ever give up. But I don’t think you are supposed to let a shark eat you either.

I guess it makes sense sometimes to get out of the water and let things you have no control over take care of themselves.

Then you can get back in the water and finish what you started.

I don’t know yet, but I am betting sometime in the future I will be working hard at getting something done when something I have absolutely no control over comes my way and it makes sense to not get eaten.

I hope I have enough sense to know when that is.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
