Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
I grew up in India in a middle class family. We din’t have any luxuries but my dad provided every thing for us. I am absolutely proud of my parents for what ever they have done to provide a great environment for us to grow. Today we are what we are because of my parents blessings and their hard work.
I this article, I would like to share few points about my dad who struggled very hard in his life to make our life better. My mom did what ever it took for her to support my dad to bring up two children.
The inspiration for me to write this article is the post by our professor on dooverdad website about his dad.
Each and every day, I thank my parents teaching me vertical alignment,
God, Family, Job, Business and other things.
Below are 5 Lessons I learned from my dad:
Praying:
Right from the childhood, I was taught to submit to almighty God. He is the supreme power and we are his children who follow according to his wishes. My parents are Hindus but, never disliked or hated any other religion. While growing up in a small village back in India, Hindus and Muslims never discriminated each other. My parents used to take me to mosque during Ed and Ramdhan. Both mom and dad used to do lot of prayers and read Holly books making me sit on their lap.
Honesty:
I thank my parents each and every day for teaching me this amazing quality of not lying to anybody. They used to tell Mahathma Gandhi’s stories and explain to us the importance of not lying and stealing.
Integrity:
My dad is second of 5 brothers and he is known for this amazing quality of Integrity. Due to this quality of his, he also served our village as a local leader. He earned respect from all his brothers and family members as well as other villagers for his great quality of Integrity.
Accountability:
My dad says, “Your Word Is Your Worth and Your Worth Is Your Word“. It still amazes this quality of his of being accountable to what ever work he does. Everybody used to count on him for what ever difficulties they had.
Teach-ability:
Both my parents are absolutely great learners. They always say, learning never stops. “If you snooze, you loose“.
