Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
A court in Shanghai has ordered the wife of a suicide victim to pay 20,000 yuan ($2,600) in compensation to her landlord because her husband’s suicide caused the value of the apartments to depreciate.
The landlord wanted 10 times that amount.
Before going to court, the landlord gave the victim’s wife several options:
1. rent the apartment for two more years to “dilute the horror environment in it”
2. buy the apartment based on its market value
3. pay him the depreciated value of the property.
When the woman refused….the court stepped in.
The landlord said the couple had a history of quarreling and fighting which led up to the husband’s suicide by hanging.
The court one-tenth agreed.
So, why didn’t the landlord try to collect the money from the dead guy?
