Toshiba Corp’s Westinghouse Electric Co can breathe HUGE sigh of relief.
The company won a Chinese contract worth $5.3 billion to build four nuclear reactors…beating out France’s Areva SA.
The contract is also worth some 5,500 jobs to the U.S.
Westinghouse will start construction next month and hopefully finish the project by 2013.
As part of the deal, Westinghouse will transfer technology to China that might be used for future constructions by the Chinese.
China is third in Asia as a nuclear energy user.
Japan is first and South Korea is second.
China wants to get 4% of its power from nuclear energy by 2020.
Surely more deals are on the horizon.
What do you think?
