At the end of the second day’s play, India scored 172/0 in their second innings against Australia in the first Test being played at Perth from November 22, 2024. Both Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (90) and KL Rahul (62) were unbeaten at the end of the days play.

The second day of the first Test saw India take a commanding position, thanks to a stellar performance by their openers and a disciplined bowling attack.

India’s Bowling Dominance

The day began with India in a strong position after reducing Australia to 67/7 at the end of Day 1. Jasprit Bumrah, leading the Indian attack, continued his impressive form by completing his 11th five-wicket haul.

Bumrah’s relentless accuracy and pace were too much for the Australian batsmen, who struggled to cope with the conditions. Debutant Harshit Rana also made a considerable impact, picking up two crucial wickets, including the dangerous Mitchell Starc.

Australia was eventually bowled out for 104, giving India a crucial 46-run lead. The Indian bowlers, particularly Bumrah and Rana, were instrumental in ensuring that Australia could not mount a significant resistance.

Jaiswal and Rahul’s Masterclass

In response, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul put on a batting masterclass. The duo showcased a blend of patience and aggression, grinding down the Australian bowlers and steadily building India’s lead. Jaiswal, playing his first Test on Australian soil, was particularly impressive, scoring an unbeaten 90 off 193 balls. His innings was marked by excellent shot selection and a solid defense.

KL Rahul, on the other hand, played a more cautious innings, scoring 62 not out off 154 balls. His partnership with Jaiswal was crucial in putting India in a dominant position.

The pair added an unbroken 172 runs for the first wicket, extending India’s lead to 218 runs by the end of the day.
