Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
It’s easy math. From birth to college is 18 years (about). 18 years times 52 Saturdays each year = 936 Saturdays.
That’s 936 Saturdays kids get to spend with the mommies and daddies.
How do you think is the best way to spend that time?
How about cleaning the house? That sounds like fun.
How about doing laundry? That sounds like fun, too
How about mowing the grass? That sounds like even more fun.
How about going for a hike?
How about going to the movie? Now we are getting somewhere?
How about just chilling together at the mall? If you don’t go with me, I’ll wait till I can go with my friends and I won’t want to go with you.

Here’s a simple lesson.
The more I spend time with you on Saturdays growing up, the more I’ll spend time with you on Saturdays when I am grown up. It’ll feel like something we always used to do.
Too often mommies and daddies want to spend time with their kids after they are all grown up and it’s more ‘fun.’
I want to spend time with you now, when I am little so you can show me what fun looks like.
When I am older, it’ll be something we always did. Why wouldn’t I want to do it then, too?
If my friends ask me to hang out, I might just say, “Nah, it’s more fun to be with my mommy and daddy.”
Let’s start now and make the most of those 936 Saturdays.
