The Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the premier global event for animation enthusiasts, has announced its official lineup for the 2025 edition. Running from June 8 to June 15 in the scenic French Alps, the festival promises a diverse selection of animated films from around the world, showcasing the creativity and innovation of the animation industry.
Annecy 2025 Lineup Features Global Talent
This year’s lineup includes films from over 20 countries, spanning Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Highlights include the Chinese feature ‘Into the Mortal World’ by Zhong Ding, the Italian hand-drawn film ‘Balentes’ by Giovanni Columbu, and the Mexican digital cut-out animation ‘The Great History of Western Philosophy’ by Aria Covamonas.
The festival will also feature premieres such as ‘Olivia and the Invisible Earthquake’ by Spanish director Irene Iborra and ‘Allah Is Not Obliged’ by Zaven Najjar, which explores the life of a child soldier during the Liberian civil war.
Annecy’s Midnight Specials and Studio Previews
Annecy’s midnight screening program will include adult animation gems like ‘All You Need Is Kill,’ an anime adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka’s sci-fi novel, and ‘Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage,’ based on the Toei Animation series. Major U.S. studios will also present sneak peeks, including Netflix’s ‘Stranger Things’ animation series and Paramount Animation’s ‘The SpongeBob Movie: Search for Squarepants.’

Artistic Director Marcel Jean remarked, “The quality of independent animation has increased in a most spectacular way,” reflecting the festival’s commitment to showcasing groundbreaking works. Annecy continues to be a hub for animation excellence, with past winners like ‘Flow’ and ‘Memoir of a Snail’ earning Oscar nominations.
