Happy Dance

Bollywood dance is coming to China.

I may be wrong, usually am according to my wife, but with China’s long history and greatest variety of dances…I wonder, is there room for Bollywood dance, too?

One Indian-German dancer thinks so.

Chinese people can relate to “the stories in the dance as they are about clashes between tradition and modernity, family ties and so on,” she says.

Plots in Bollywood movies as well are simple and memorable – good and evil, boy meets girl, love, separation and reunion.

The dances are “very modern, folkloric, traditional or classical” and reflect the moods of the hero or heroine – happy, sad, in love.”

But…will it catch on

in China?

If so, then there will be happy dances. If not…sad dances.

And in the end, perhaps a new plot for a movie…Bollywood goes to China, catches on.

Okay, let’s dance.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
