Japan has about 10,000 US Marines and 50,000 US military members total. And ALL of them would rather be in Japan than in Iraq or Afghanistan or on some boat just off the coast. I was stationed in Japan for nearly 3 years and loved it – though we were deployed more than half of the time…make that 2/3s of the time.
It was because of my initial experience in the military in Japan that I became exposed to the country, fell in love, and stayed. Thanks, Uncle Sam. Thanks, Japan.
Now Japan and the US are playing Stratego. They are moving people around.
8,000 Marines are being moved from one Pacific paradise – Okinawa, to another – Guam.
I’ve been to both and the girls in Okinawa are prettier than the girls in Guam. The Marines will be bummed about that but maybe it’ll keep them out of trouble.
Japan agreed to foot nearly 60% of the bill to relocate the troops. They will pay outright nearly $3 billion and then LEND the US another $3.3 billion and charge the US enough interest to get their money back long term.
Japan’s not stupid.
