Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
I wrote a while back about Stanford feeling the pinch in an article titled feeling the pinch because they could not recruit as many quality students from China and India.
Well, now there seems to be a cure on the horizon.
Some dude with more money than he can spend has decided to give a bundle of it to Stanford…to the tune of $100 million!
John Arrillaga is an SF Bay Area Peninsula-based developer. He is also 69 years old. Perhaps he figures he ought to do something with his money while he can still decide what he wants to do with it. Stanford is the recipient.
This is not, however, the largest gift ever given to a university. Boone Pickens, an Oklahoma cowboy who made a bundle in oil gave $165 million to Oklahoma State University!
Holy smokes!
So, how does this answer Stanford’s brain drain? Well, it doesn’t. But it sure makes life easier for them while they figure out what to do, doesn’t it?
How could your college improve itself if someone gave it $100 million?
Any ideas?
