American Airlines is suing Yahoo over trademark infringement.
American Airlines says that when Yahoo puts competitors’ ads next to theirs Yahoo sends business to AA’s competitors.
Last year, AA filed a similar suit against Google and settled out of court.
AA says that “when someone searches on an American Airlines-trademarked term confuses the public and directs potential American Airlines customers to other companies.”
Yahoo and Alibaba of China are interlinked. Yahoo Japan is still the number one search engine in Japan, neck and neck with Google.
If AA can get Yahoo to settle as they did Google, it is sure to have reverberations in China and Japan as well.
Then what about other airlines and cruise lines and-and-and…making similar claims.
Is this a challenge the search engines need to be worried about?
And, btw, what was the settlement that Google and AA came to?
