Yahoo! is coming to China and India

Yahoo! Japan and eBay have formed a partnership that opens the door for Yahoo! Japan to expand in China and India.

Yahoo! Japan’s auction site is Japan’s largest.

eBay is the world’s largest.

I”The agreement to link up the auction sites of the two firms greatly eases the contractual restrictions on Yahoo Japan’s growth agenda.”

Yahoo! Japan is a joint venture of Yahoo and Softbank.

The parent Yahoo had banned the Japanese auction site operator from using the Yahoo brand outside of Japan.

Yahoo! Japan not only wants/needs to expand in the US but the company also has its sites on China and India. Yahoo U.S. won’t mind if its JV in Japan makes more money, either.

The tie up with eBay allows Yahoo! Japan to do business outside of Japan without violating the contract with the U.S. brand owner. And the reason they didn’t renegotiate a contract is? A mystery.

Yahoo! Japan leads Google in Japan for search engine marketing and online ads.

And now, Yahoo! Japan is free to grow.

What country is next?

How about a partnership with Alibaba maybe? Alibaba and Yahoo have very close ties.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
