Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
Yahoo China’s head honcho, Jack Ma, said that Yahoo China’s portal will be reorganized as a business-oriented search engine.
There are two ways to look at this…Yahoo China is exploring other areas…Yahoo China is admitting defeat to Baidu and distant second place Google China.
Specialization is the key said the Alibaba boss, which runs Yahoo China operations.
Besides Baidu, there is also Sina.com and, of course, Google.
“What’s the point of being another Sina.com?” asked Ma. That’s a good point.
Internal research found that Yahoo China is used by more affluent, business-oriented customers, while Baidu is the choice of kids, college kids.
Yahoo China will focus on high-income users and entrepreneurs, those who have money or want to make money.
But, I thought if you put a keyword in you would get the most relevant sites relating to that keyword….nope…it seems search engines do have a flavor to them.
Yahoo China – admitting defeat? Seems so.
Making a wise decision to specialize? Time will tell.
What do you think?
