Wild Hearts, a non-profit organization founded in 2016, is dedicated to helping young ladies engage with each other and build leadership skills through outdoor activities. This winter, the organization took a group of middle school girls on a snowshoe adventure at Bogus Basin, providing them with a unique opportunity to experience the outdoors and develop new skills.
A Memorable Snowshoeing Experience
The snowshoeing adventure at Bogus Basin was a first-time experience for many of the girls, but they quickly picked up the activity and enjoyed the journey. “I think it’s really fun. I like being outdoors,” said Delilah, a 12-year-old participant. “I think it is amazing that I get to experience this and do that.”
Building Confidence and Community
Serena Rasmussen of Wild Hearts emphasized the importance of outdoor activities in building confidence and community among young ladies. “Idaho is so cool because we have so many opportunities to get outside,” she said. “We are trying to [get] girls outdoors to fall in love with this place, fall in love with these activities and know that these activities are for them.”
Leadership and Resiliency
Wild Hearts focuses on teaching resiliency, team building, and leadership skills through their programs. “We are trying to make the next generation of leaders in the outdoors and also back in city life,” said Rasmussen. “Every adventure that we go on, we try to have some sort of leadership component attached to it.”
Future Adventures
After a busy winter season, Wild Hearts plans to take a break this spring to prepare for their summer adventures. The organization offers a variety of activities, including backpacking, rock climbing, rafting, and hiking, ensuring that the girls have a blast no matter what the adventure.
