Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego trusted God to keep them safe.

The Bible has many stories about its characters having to move, adjust and live in a foreign country. Perhaps these are the original cross-cultural pioneers. I am sure there are some things that Mia Mei could learn from them.

There’s a story in the Bible about an army that came to conquer Israel and take all the people to Babylon as slaves. But not all the slaves were treated the same. Three young men called Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were special. They were smart, so the king of Babylon wanted them to be raised as wise men. But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego knew that if they followed all the rules of the King of Babylon, God would not be honored, and they loved God more than anything.

The three friends continued to serve God, even though it made some people mad. It was hard for them, because they lived in a different country and had to learn a new language. The people of Babylon did not serve God, and that made it even harder for the young men from Israel.

The people who were mad at Shadrach, Meshach,  and Abednego made a plan to kill them. They talked the king into making a law that said everyone had to worship a statue of the king. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did not worship the statue of the king, they were thrown into a huge furnace full of fire. But they didn’t get hurt!

Because Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego always loved and trusted God, God kept them safe, even in the fire, and God always took care of them.

Perhaps the first step to making adjustments in a foreign country is to know where you stand in your home country and in your life.
