Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
Despite China’s rapid economic development, one area is sorely (literally) lagging….the teeth condition of the elderly.
7% of Chinese over 65 years of age have NO TEETH left.
98.4% of Chinese between 65-74 suffer from tooth decay.
92% of those do not receive treatment.
The average Chinese over 65 loses about 11 teeth AFTER turning 65.
Of course, urbanites have better teeth than do the
country folk. Women are also in better shape than men.
Seems like a great market opportunity for would-be dental entrepreneurs, no?
I heard once that the most depressing job a person can have is to be a dentist.
Imagine treating the elderly Chinese.
Would you like to be a dentist?
