Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
Talk about passing the buck….
A chocolate-colored sofa was delivered to the home of an African-American born, raised in NYC woman with a racial slur on the packaging describing the color as “nigger-brown.”
The woman called the furniture store.
“Why should I take the blame?” the furniture store said. “I’m a trader, I don’t manufacture.”
The owner of the supplier….”I import my products from overseas. I’ve never noticed anything like that. This is something new to me.”
He passed the blame on to a Chinese furniture maker in Guangzhou with a demand to remove all similar labels.
So…the Chinese get blamed.
Question: Who taught the Chinese that descriptive term? I can’t imagine a shipping clerk in southern China coming up with it or finding it in a dictionary somewhere.
It is unacceptable to use such a term…it is equally unacceptable for not taking responsibility for mistakes made.

I’ve seen some unlikely stuff written by ‘non English speakers’ working from a dictionary and with no first-hand knowledge of the language.
But yes – were I the merchant I would have taken immediate ownership and comped the lady her couch.
American movies? Anyway whoever taught this must be all too familiar with this term.
Get a life lady! Sure, it’s offensive, but obviously not racist, they don’t know enough about the term to be racist! Let the manufacturer, or whoever, know about it, but to make a big deal out of this is just stupid! There’s probably a real good chance they heard the term in a rap song, sung by guess what ‘minority’? So all you people out there who thought it was ok to use the term,WRONG! It’s come home to roost!
