Chinese Americans

The Chinese are coming to America in record numbers.

There are almost twice as many international students coming to America now as when my mommy came just over 10 years ago.

There were 235,000 students from China last year out of 819,000 total. The percentage of Chinese students is up 20%.

And what do they study?

About 1/3 of them study business and management.

Where’s the number one destination?

University of Southern California.

How much are they spending?

Overall, the international students are spending a whopping $24,000,000,000!

That’s a lot of zeroes!

Other top destinations:

University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.

New York University

Columbia University in New York.

Lots and lots of these people are going to stay after school. Get married. Have kids. And make lots and lots more Chinese-American kids.

And some of them kids are likely to be in college the same time as I am … or almost. IF there are still colleges around. Who knows?

Education is changing. These days you can learn just about anything by watching Youtube or reading Wikipedia. You just have to verify your sources and check the references.

Daddy taught me that. He’s a teacher. He knows those things.

Other countries are sending lots of students, too – India, South Korea, Saudi Arabia and Canada.

Yup… lots and lots of Indians in my neighborhood. And Samsung is building a giant new office right down the street.
