It All Began in the 50s
I was born in the 50s. But that’s not what I am talking about here.
The first audiobook was recorded in the 50’s. I think my parents wanted me to have something to keep me occupied so they could deal with my 4 older siblings. Just kidding.
“In January 1952, Barbara Cohen and Marianne Roney, sat down with Dylan Thomas in the bar of the Chelsea Hotel and persuaded him to record some of his poetry. To fill the other side of the record, Thomas recorded a story he sold to Harper’s Bazaar, A Child’s Christmas in Wales.”
It wasn’t till the 1980s and the invention of the cassette and the Sony Walkman that audiobooks really took off.
I didn’t start listening to audiobooks until last year-ish. I am a walker. I read while I walked but trees kept getting in the way.
“There has to be a better way,” I thought correctly. Rare for me.
The audiobook!! I started listening while walking. Now I walk while listening. Listening/reading being the motivator. I am listening to ENEMIES – A History of the FBI by Tim Weiner – as part of my background reading for a book I am writing on the Cold War. I ramble.
All that to say:
We have finally completed the audibook of the 2nd book in our Growing Up Aimi Series – The Heliuna Academy.
And … we are giving 5 copies away to first five who click throug to claim it.
Click to listen to = > The Heliuna Academy.
We would greatly appreciate an honest review but it is not required. It’s a gift.
If you click through and are not approved, that means 5 people have already claimed the gift. I hope it’s you.
Ella Thompson is our narrator and did a terrific job!
Recommendations from Mia
Hullo everyone, this is Mia with song recommendations!
A classic early 2000’s song that is a great song to start with on guitar (one of my first!) Riptide by Vance Joy. Available wherever you listen online.
On a different note, I am really looking forward to our family trip next week, and am writing this early so I take the whole week off! See you guys another time!
