Dr. Richard Davidson is a researcher at the University of Wisconsin. He is also one of Time top 100 this year. So, what’s he doing in Panasianbiz?

Well, it seems Davidson, is doing some serious study in mind-body medicine. The west, he figures, has the body part down. The east is where we get into the mind.

Davidson, it seems, wired up a bunch of Tibetan Buddhist Monks and then watched his dials whirl and needles jump. I wonder where he plugged in at.

Davidson says he is able to study internal states of consciousness by linking them to the objective reality of electrical activity in the central nervous system.

So, now Davidson knows which part of the brain is active or not, during deep meditation.

But…but…does Davidson know that the East generally considers the belly as the seat of emotions? At least they do in Japan and China? Did he remember to attach electrodes in those locations as well?

I am not very smart, but this man is one of Time’s 100 that I wonder whether he belongs or not.

What do you think?

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
