As a bilingual child, I love the opportunity to read books with both languages that I speak. Now, I am going to pass on some of my favorites to you. You can use these books for your kids who speak, or want to learn to speak, Chinese or American. I love them, and I am sure you will too!

Chinese and English Nursery Rhymes: Share and Sing in Two Languages: This book, written by Kierren Dutcher and Faye-Lynn Wu will take you through popular nursery rhymes in both languages, with an accompanying CD.

American Born Chinese: This book, written by Gene Luen Yang, tells the story of a young boy that starts a school where he is the only Chinese-American student. This story takes a look at his life and the trials he faced during school, offering the story in both English and Chinese.

Hippocrene Children’s Illustrated Chinese/English Dictionary: This book is specifically designed with children age’s five to 10 in mind and has over 500 entries with both the English and Chinese version and a large illustration.

Early Start Mandarin Chinese with Bao Bei the Panda, Volume 1: Colors and Animals: This book helps young children learn the Chinese or English language with fun illustrations. The stimulating visuals that are offered will be sure to keep your child engaged and interested in the lesson.

The Snake Goddess Colors the World: A Chinese Tale Told in English and Chinese: This book, written by Li Jian, tells the story of how the world was transformed from gray and boring to full of color by the colorful Snake Goddess Nuwa.
