Costs of Raising a Child for 18 years

I heard my mommy and daddy talking the other day about money.

They want to save or invest some money for me to use when I get older and want to buy a lot a lot of Disney dolls. Maybe a whole collection.

Mommies and daddies like to get ideas from other mommies and daddies who have ‘been there done that.’

Here’s on bit of advice from Ben Stein that was given on CNN.

What’s a good investment? Go home from work early and spend the afternoon throwing a ball around with your son.

I don’t want to spend the afternoon throwing a ball … but I do like to throw a ball sometimes. What I also like to do is throw rocks in the ocean. And I LOVED when my daddy took me to the beach and we just hung out and threw rocks into the ocean. I think when we were done the ocean level went up a little bit, too.

The point – we kids love to hang out with our parents. I’d rather have a 1000 hours with my daddy than a $1000.

When parents hang out with us kids, we are better for it.

That time is a really good investment.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
