Santa Claus

Santa may live at the north pole and Norway may be on the top of the globe, but only in Asia can you be at the top of the world.

Greenpacks.org researched the locations of the world’s tallest mountains. The top 14 are all in Asia – China, Nepal, Pakistan.

All 14 are over 8,000 meters. The highest I have ever gone…3,776 meters, to the top of Mt. Fuji, three times.

I have contacts in Nepal. When I was in Japan we helped some Nepalese build a center to teach mountain children about sanitation. The facility is also used to teach the Bible.  The men in Nepal have been after me to come visit them sometime and I’d really love to go.

Something about those Nepalese…hard working, trustworthy, and diligent.

Mountain climbing is big business and Asia is where the big fellows are. I think I read that it can cost $25K or better to hire a guide to lead you up a mountain and let you die there. Imagine that, paying someone to put your life in danger, even allow you to die. It kind of reminds me of people setting aside a couple of grand and making plans to go into the desert and stay until they have lost it all.

Who knows why people do what they do, eh?

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
