“With 50 some car models, Japan doesn’t have a chance’ said a business magazine some 50 years ago.

Yup…they got that wrong.

Toyota will overtake GM this year as the number one car maker in the world. GM has no chance as the company is rolling out nothing while UAW is on strike.

Now that Toyota, Honda, and the other Japanese automakers have shown the Big Three how not only to make cars but to do business as well, Japan’s Big Three will

set their sites on Europe.

Toyota Europe’s chief said the world’s second to be number one carmaker was aiming to boost sales by 5% next year after selling about 1.22mn autos in Europe in 2007.

Mitsubishi is expecting sales in Russia to jump almost 50%.

New registrations for all brands in Europe fell by 1.1% in the first half of this year…but…Honda’s new registrations surged by 14.6% and Toyota’s were up 3.3%.

And as long as GM is NOT making cars….they will soon run out of new cars.

What that means is more people will walk over to the Japanese car lots and never walk back.

Can Japanese car makers do in Europe what they did in the U.S.?

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
