Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.

When my daddy was a little boy his mommy and daddy would tell him to go play outside.

My mommy and daddy tell me stay inside.

We are not allowed to run around outside by ourselves anymore.

Nowadays there are new ways to keep us little people occupied when mommy is cooking or daddy has to finish an email to a client.

Here are some:

1. iPad or iPad mini – these don’t work too well because you have to keep asking mommy or daddy to pay for the unlocked version.

2. Tablets – it seems that Droid tablets have more free options that are funner. But I don’t know yet. I have to investigate.

3. Leapfrogs – there are other electronic devices we like to play with.

4. Smart phones – my daddy’s phone is big! I can watch Netflix on it and it fits perfectly in my hands and the screen size is just right.

5. Etch a Sketch – Huh? You don’t remember? My daddy’s phone has a funky little pen that I can use to draw with. It works just like an etch n sketch.

The real question I want to ask here is – should mommies and daddies be giving us gadgets to play with to keep us busy while they are busy?

Why can’t we just go out and play again?

What do you think?
