Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.
I am only 42 inches tall. Yao Ming is 90 inches tall.
I can hide under the couch. Or in a closet. Or

I don’t think Yao Ming can hide anywhere.
But my Gong Gong has been wondering where he was at.
Daddy found him.
Yao Ming was an NBA all-star. And lots and lots and lots and lots of people loved him.
He played hard. And he opened the door for a lot of other people from China to come and play in the NBA. People who work hard for other people are cool. Says my daddy.
Yao Ming stopped playing basketball. But he didn’t stop working hard.
Daddy found him in Africa, working with WildAid.
Yao Ming has teamed up with the Duke of Cambridge and David Beckham to try and stop people from buying ivory.
“If the buying stops, so will the killing.”
My daddy brought me a globe from Thailand with an elephant in it.
He also brought me a bracelet thingee with an elephant on it. It was a really small elephant.
Can you imagine having a real elephant hanging around your neck? Maybe me hanging around the elephant’s neck.
When we grow up bi-culturally we have to learn to be sensitive to the things we do in our culture and how they affect people in other countries. And how we can change the lives of animals, too.
I am glad daddy found Yao Ming.
Now, where is my barbie doll?
