Sports

There is one sport and one location where Adidas can kick the tar out of Nike .

The sport is soccer and the location is Asia.

Nike has a  38% of the branded footwear market compare to a 34% share held by Adidas. This has much to do with Adidas’ purchase of Reebok .

Still, Adidas has passed up Nike overall in Japan.

Nike kicks Adidas butt in the US but outside of the States, it’s 31-28, Nike. Sounds like a different kind of football score, eh?

Adidas took the lead from Nike after sponsoring the 2002 Japan national team in the 2002 World Cup .

Adidas also seems to slipped ahead of Nike in offering “lifestyle footwear” once again…in Japan.

There is yet one other market where Adidas is growing faster than Nike…China!

There are two giant events coming up that bode well for Adidas’ future…the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 Beijing Games.

Someone once told me, put a kid and a ball in a room and watch what happens. The kid will kick the ball = soccer is the most natural of all ball sports.

As for me, I hate soccer. But the rest of the world, especially Asia, loves it.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
