The Statistics and Census Service in Macao reported that the average visitor to the Asian gambling capital spent 1,430 patacas ($178.75) in the third quarter of this year, up just 1% over last year.

However, the same organization announced that visitors from mainland China spent more than twice that much – 2,898 patacas ($362.25).

My in-laws took a bus tour of the western states that included Las Vegas. They said that nearly one in three of the people at the slots in Vegas were Chinese.

At Atlantic City, the percentage is the same.

Macao is finding that their location is ideal for Chinese Mainlanders and Hong Kongers.
