I thought I have seen everything. But, this little boy has NEVER seen anything.

He has no eyes, has never shed a tear, any eyebrows, and a small pointed nose.

The illness is known as cryptophthalmos – the congenital absence of the eyes.

There are only some hundred cases that are known.

Eye-opening surgery (literally) is planned but there are no assurances

The picture brings tears to my eyes.

A professor of  Xiamen’s ophthalmology center has learned that one of the little boy’s eyes may not be fully developed.

My guess is that there are a whole lot of western doctors who would like to take a stab at this. Hopefully, this post will help a bit in getting the word out.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
