I learned how to use a computer in Japanese. I knew the tool bar titles in Japanese BEFORE I learned them in English.

My first PC was made by www.nec.com. And what I remember most vividly is that it couldn’t get along with any other PCs. I learned Ichitaro and Lotus BEFORE I knew what Windows was.

A friend bought an IBM ThinkPad. Nothing he made could be read on my laptop and vice versa. How frustrated we were…actually, I was.

Now….PCs are talking to each other….MS talks to MAC and MAC talks to everybody.

MS, CEO, Steve Ballmer and NEC Prez, Kaoru Yano announced the two companies were going to team up in servers and networking. Additionally, they plan to deepen their patent cross-licensing efforts as part of an expanded relationship.

This is, IMHO, what globalization is all about … getting along…working together. Yea, I know they are both in it for the money.  But, way back when…everybody was going it alone and it was us individual users that were frustrated.

Maybe those days will soon be gone for good.

What do you think?

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
