Bill Belew has raised 2 bi-cultural kids, now 34 and 30. And he and his wife are now parenting a 3rd, Mia, who is 8.

I got scared just watching this new sneak peak of Disney’s Maleficent!

I am 6-years old now (today is my birthday), but I still get scared at spooky things.

And this sneak peak of the witch who terrorized Aurora is really scary.

Daddy says that sometimes the trailers are more frightening than the actual movie.

I am not sure I want to find out. I don’t like witches. And I am sure I know now why Aurora was so frightened.

Still, the whole idea of giving us the back story to Sleeping Beauty is kind of cool.

I just learned what getting back stories was all about from watching Star Wars IV, V and VI. Then this last weekend we watched Star Wars I.

I have a bunch of more questions about why is what and daddy has all the answers, “Watch and you will find out.”

Then daddy told me something really cool.

“Mia, when you grow up you can make up your own stories and back stories.”

Now, that sounds like a lot of fun. But I don’t want to grow up too fast.

It’s too much fun being a little girl.

But if I do grow up, then maybe I won’t be so afraid to watch Maleficent.

I guess growing up means having to make hard decisions.

Talk to Bill and others about their experiences raising bi-cultural Japanese-American kids.
